Boerum Hill Gym Instructor on the Biggest
Weight Loss Obstacles and How to Beat Them

With every worthwhile goal you’re pursuing, it is a given that you will encounter obstacles, and getting fit comes with a few challenges.  As a Boerum Hill gym instructor, I have helped countless clients successfully overcome these difficulties.

If you have made a commitment to lose weight, be prepared to meet with some major hurdles, both at the Boerum Hill gyms and at home.  How you surmount these will determine whether you succeed or fail in achieving your goals.  Here are the most common obstacles I’ve observed in my years of experience, and some solutions you can try on your own.

Boredom – Eat the same things and do the same workout at the gym all the time and boredom will surely set in and sap your motivation.  When it comes to food, I tell my clients to rotate the kinds of vegetables they use in their dishes, like using onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes alternately in their egg-white omelets.  You can also experiment with different spices to switch things up – I like to use Caribbean jerk seasoning sometimes on my chicken & veggie stir-fry.  Taking into account that spices have almost no calories, you can be comfortable using them as much as you want.

Gym workouts can be made more interesting by asking your fitness trainer make changes in the routine regularly.  You can also join a group training program or boot camp once in a while, because these are more physically challenging and will keep you motivated.
Family and Friends – You are always painfully aware of the difficulties you encounter in your journey to your goal weight, but sometimes friends and family seem oblivious; they offer you fatty foods and distract you from going to the gym in Boerum Hill.  Although it may seem like it, your loved ones are not trying to sabotage your success; they just need to know how their actions are affecting you.  Once you talk to them and explain how important to you your goals are, they will be happy to support you.

Not having enough time – As a personal trainer I hear this excuse the most for why people stay sedentary and eat fast food on a regular basis.  My clients complain that they don’t have time to go to a Boerum Hill gym or even spend 15 minutes to prepare a healthy meal.
People who are genuinely too busy to get to the gym can try to incorporate simple exercises within their regular day, like using the stairs more often and taking walks during break times.  You can also purchase a treadmill or other equipment so you can workout while watching your favorite shows.  If you worry about sacrificing time spent with your girlfriend/boyfriend, you can take up a sport together or go for brisk walks in the park.  All the minutes you spend exercising should add up and contribute to your weight loss.

Frustration – People get frustrated when they feel like they are not getting results despite their efforts.  Lack of motivation is a big reason why people quit their diets or stop going to the gym.  I tell my clients that they should maintain a weight loss diary where they can record their meals, workouts, and weights and measurements taken regularly.  This will allow them to get proof of their progress, even if they don’t “feel” that they are making headway.
