New York Fitness Center Instructor
on Overcoming Common Fitness Challenges

When working to achieve any meaningful goal, we will usually come up against some obstacles, and losing weight is no exception.  As an experienced New York fitness center instructor, I have helped numerous clients beat every challenge we faced.

If you are planning to embark on a new fitness program, you can anticipate that there will be some major obstacles along the way, both in the fitness studio and at home.  How you choose to tackle these challenges will determine whether you will succeed in reaching your goal weight or not.  This article will focus on the main obstacles that most people face, along with my personal advice on how to overcome them on your own.

Boredom – Anyone would get tired of eating the same things or doing the same workout all the time; the key is to change things up occasionally.  When it comes to food, I tell my clients to experiment with different vegetables and spices in their usual recipes, like substituting onions for bell peppers in their morning egg-white omelets.  They can also use jerk seasoning on their chicken vegetable stir-fry once in a while to give it some Caribbean flavor.  There’s no need to be stingy with seasoning because these have little to no calories.

At the fitness center, you should change the order in which you do the machines, or ask your trainer for some new exercises to try.  For cardio you can experiment with the dance or spinning classes.  You can also try a boot camp so you work out in a group, which can be fun.  Having this variety will motivate you and also make your workouts more effective, since you are using different muscles.

Family & Friends – Sometimes we feel like no one understands what we are going through while on a diet, because people are always offering us fatty food like lasagna and inviting us to hang out whenever we have an appointment at a New York fitness studio.  The truth is they are not trying to sabotage our fitness program – they just don’t realize that they are making things difficult for you.  All that needs to be done is to explain to them what you are doing and how much it means to you, and they will surely support you 100%.
No time – The “I don’t have time” excuse is the one I most often heard in my personal trainer business, for why people don’t make it to the fitness center.  They say they are so busy they can’t even spare 15 minutes to prepare something nutritious, so they continue to eat take out and not exercise.

If you feel you really can’t find the time to go to a fitness center in New York, then try to squeeze some activity in your regular day, like going for a walk on your lunch break, or using the stairs more often.  If you have a treadmill at home you could watch TV while working out on it.  You can even involve your significant other and take up a sport together.  Any exercise will add up and help you on your program.

Frustration – One reason why people quit their programs is because they don’t see the results quickly enough.  As a New York fitness center instructor I tell my clients that if they document their successes in a journal they would have proof of their progress even if they don’t “feel” the changes right away.
