New York Boot camp Instructor on Overcoming
the Biggest Fitness Obstacles
We are bound to come up against challenges whenever we work towards any important goal, and getting fit is no different. In my experience as a New York boot camp instructor, I have helped innumerable clients beat many different kinds of obstacles.
On a fitness program, there are some major difficulties that you will probably encounter, and I have listed the top 5 here. I will also provide some practical ways that you can overcome them on your own. Keep in mind that how you deal with these barriers will ultimately determine how successful you will be in reaching your goal weight.
Boredom – People tend to get bored with any routine, and that goes for the kind of meals we eat as well as the exercises in our bootcamp workouts. I always tell my clients to experiment with different vegetables and spices in their cooking so they get some variety in their dishes. For example, bell peppers can be substituted for onions in their morning egg-white omelets. If they are tired of their chicken-veggie stir-fry, they can try adding some jerk seasoning for some Caribbean flavor. Remember that spices have next to no calories, so don’t be afraid to test them out in your recipes.
In the realm of exercise, I always use a variety of different exercises in my New Yorkboot camp program, and I tell my clients they can do the same by trying different cardio classes or a new sport. The changes will keep you interested and will make your workouts more valuable since you are always working your muscles in different ways.
Family & Friends – You may have started working out with boot camps in New York and are starting to feel the pressure, but the people in your life might seem unhelpful or downright destructive. They offer you lasagna and ask you to hang with them when you have to meet your New York bootcamp group. Always remember that they are not out to sabotage your diet or program, they just don’t realize you need their help. The solution is to explain to them how important your weight loss goals are, and they will seem much more supportive.
I don’t have time – As a personal trainer I would have to say that this is the number one excuse I hear for why someone doesn’t workout or eat right. They say they are just too busy to come join my boot camp sessions, and they don’t even have a few minutes to prepare healthy meals. As you might expect, these people end up staying couch potatoes and eating take out.
What you can do is try to fit in little pockets of exercise in your day, like stretching at your desk and taking walks on your lunch break. A lot of people like to use a treadmill at home while they are watching the evening shows. If you think you will be sacrificing some time with a significant other, why not invite him or her to go power-walking in the park or join bootcampsin New York together. Even a little exercise will help you on your program, as long as you stay consistent.
Frustration – People are likely to quit if they don’t feel like they are making much progress. I tell them to keep a fitness diary to keep track of their weigh-ins, food intake, and boot camp workouts. This way they will have physical proof of their improvement, even if they don’t “feel” it all the time.
